Ice Climbing in Gressoney with a Mountain Guide

Book an experience of ice climbing in Gressoney

Reserve your IFMGA-UIAGM certified mountain guide in Gressoney for an ice climbing in the Gressoney Valley and the entire Aosta Valley. The guide will advise and accompany you along the magnificent natural icefalls that freeze up over the winter or the ice that forms directly on the rock of the mountain massifs.

The Gressoney Valley is a true haven for ice climbing enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of routes that cater to all skill levels, from beginner-friendly climbs to challenging lines for seasoned experts.

Beginner and classic climbs:
For those new to the sport or seeking more accessible routes, the Nicchia, Lys Balma and Ypsilon waterfalls in Gressoney-La-Trinité are ideal starting points. Another popular classic is the Alpenzu Waterfall, located on the flatlands just beyond the town of Gressoney-Saint-Jean.
For the beginners we can organize a day or more days of ice climbing course in which the mountain guide will teach techniques for climbing a frozen waterfall.

Intermediate challenges:
Climbers looking to step up their skills can tackle the Punta Jolanda Waterfall, situated directly opposite the Punta Jolanda chairlift in Gressoney-La-Trinité, or the Ciampa Waterfall in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. For those drawn to wilder, more secluded terrain, the Netscho Valley offers an excellent option. With its narrow gullies and northern exposure, some routes here remain climbable even late in the season, providing an extended window for exploration.

Advanced and expert routes:
Experienced ice climbers will find a playground of technical challenges on the Ciampa Waterfalls and the dramatic ice formations of Thriller and Nuvole Barocche, which rise majestically on the rocky faces of Monte Tiaz and Testa Grigia. These awe-inspiring columns require refined skills and are set amidst the rugged beauty of the upper valley.
