Information about via Ferrata del Porton and via Ferrata del Velo

The via Ferrata del Porton is one of the most difficult in the Pale di San Martino; it features a rather technical - mostly equipped - itinerary that leads to col Forcella Porton from where, then, we reach the easier via Ferrata del Velo. The path develops among couloirs, chimneys and vertical walls in a characteristic, tough yet spectacular dolomite environment.

The via ferrata features a 400 meters elevation gain; 1500 meters for the whole excursion. The via ferrata is equipped with metal wire and some metal brackets assist the steepest passages.

The excursion starts from the top station of the Colverde-Rosetta cable car from where the approach begins. Following a marvelous exposed but safe trail we reach Passo di Ball (2443 meters) and we keep going towards Rifugio Pradidali. The attack of the via ferrata is just above the rifugio. The descent from Rifugio Velo della Madonna follows a trail that brings back to San Martino di Castrozza by the cable car station.
