Information about the Vallée Blanche Traverse experience

The traverse of the Vallée Blanche Glacier is a relatively easy hike; a wonderful mountaineering tour among tall and slim rock pinnacles, séracs and crevasses, before majestic peaks: Mont Blanc, Mount Dent du Géant and Mount Grandes Jorasses. A scenic and thrilling high-altitude traverse; a very good introduction to the world of high mountain. The traverse features just one short steep stretch and it is good for beginners as well.

Climb:  about 5 hours with a 600 meter elevation gain.

Vallée Blanche Traverse schedule

Early in the morning the climbers will meet the mountain guide at the parking lot by the Monte Bianco cable car station and they will go through the equipment check. They will take the cable car to the station of Rifugio Torino from where, shortly, they will reach the edge of the glacier. After putting on the glacier equipment (crampons, harness and rope), the real climb starts going up to Mount Col Flambeaux.

Before keeping going the climbers will be overwhelmed by indescribable views on several "four-thousands" in the massif and on impressive rocky pinnacles (particularly Mount Gran Capucin). The climb resumes going down through the glacier all the way to the base of two other famous and evocative pinnacles: Mount Piramide (Pyramid) and Mount Pic Adolphe.

Surrounded by majestic walls on which one can spot the climbers, the hikers will keep going up towards Mount Aiguille de Midi. The last stretch, the steepest and most demanding, develops on a short, yet steep, ridge and it leads to the terrace of Mount Aiguille du Midi.

Deeply rewarded by the tour and by the marvelous views, the mountaineers will go back to Rifugio Torino and to the starting point taking the cable car.
