Gran Paradiso traverse

The traverse of Piccolo Paradiso and Gran Paradiso is one of the most interesting and scenic ridge routes of the Gran Paradiso group and the entire Alpine range. It is a long and challenging itinerary, suitable for well-trained mountaineers with good experience on various terrains.

The trip starts from the little village of Pont Valsavaranche. Going up heading south the mountaineers will reach the Chabod refuge, at an elevation of 27310 meters, or Vittorio Emanuele refuge (2735 meters) for the night. On the second day the mountaineers will leave at dawn and proceed first on the glacier -inclination between 45 and 50 degrees- and then along the spectacular ridge, which alternates aerial and exposed ridges of snow with towers of good rock. Reached the summit the return will be along the Normal route.

Good training and a resume with some high mountains climbed is required. The itinerary includes steep glacier and unsteady rocks with crampons and some little rock climbing (III degree)
