Information about the ski touring to Roccia Nera

The ski touring to Roccia Nera (Rocher Noir - Schwarzruken) through the Verra Glacier starts from Pian di Verra Inferiore, at an elevation of 2050 meters.

Day one of ski touring
A very nice street goes up towards Pian di Verra Superiore and it goes towards the little valley of glacier Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra. The itinerary goes on through the steep morainic graveled slope of glacier Grande Ghiacciaio di Verra. The path, then, reaches the ridge over the morain that will lead the hikers to Rifugio Mezzalama, at an elevation of 3004 meters. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day two of ski touring
From Rifugio Mezzalama through the slopes of glacier Ghiacciaio di Verra -rather steep- the path goes up and it reaches a wide glacial hump that goes up heading north-east. After passing Rifugio Guide D'Ayas the hikers will go up towards Passo di Verra, or Zwillingjoch. Before reaching it, the path turns west and it passes under mounts Monte Polluce and Porta Nera.

From there the path passes close to the base of the rocky spur by bivouac Bivacco Rossi e Volante and, with a wide loop, it heads north-east going up the slope that leads to the base of the final slab. There, at about 250 meters from the summit, the hikers will leave their skis and they will climb up the slope that -with a 40° declivity- will lead them to the west ridge. From the ridge the path easily leads to the summit.

The very beautiful descent ski ride takes place through the climb route.

The ski touring to Roccia Nera is rated as OSA (very good ski mountaineer). It features a 1315 + 1071 meter elevation gain. The path faces south-west, both during the climb and the descent.
