Information about the ski touring to Mount Castore

The ski touring to Mount Castore through the Verra Glacier starts from Pian di Verra Inferiore, at an elevation of 2050 meters.

Day one of ski touring
A very nice street goes up towards Pian di Verra Superiore and it goes towards the little valley of glacier Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra. The itinerary goes on through the steep morainic graveled slope of glacier Grande Ghiacciaio di Verra. The path, then, reaches the ridge over the morain that will lead the mountaineers to Rifugio Mezzalama, at an elevation of 3004 meters. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day two of ski touring
From Rifugio Mezzalama the itinerary resumes going up the slopes of glacier Ghiacciaio di Verra. A rather steep stretch preceds a wide glacial hump that the mountaineers will walk through heading north-east. Passing Rifugio Guide D'Ayas the path keeps going towards Passo di Verra, or Zwillingjoch. 

Before reaching it the itinerary turns and it passes under Mount Polluce. The mountaineers will keep going up on their skis until the declivity allows it before using their crampons. Once on the nort-west ridge, the mountaineers will keep going until they will reach the summit. The very beautiful ski ride takes place through the climb route.

The ski touring to Mount Castore is rated as OSA (very good ski mountaineer). The excursion reaches a maximum elevation of 4221 meters. The path, both during the climb and the descent, faces south and west. It features a 1315 + 1222 meters elevation gap.
