Information about the ski mountaineering excursion in Val Fonda at the Forcella del Cristallo

The ski mountaineering itinerary starts at 1476 meters. We reach the Marogna Bridge by car, on the road from Carbonin to Misurina. The trail goes up the riverbed of Rio di Val Fonda to a gateway to a magnificent canyon leading to the great amphitheater surrounded by the majestic north face of the Popena and Cristallo Mountains. At first the climb continues along a narrow gully that we handle carrying our skis on our backpacks, then we continue on skis on beautiful slopes of the glacier and up to the pass at an elevation of 2808 meters.

We follow the 1300-meter descent along the same path we took on the way up, back to our starting point.

The ski mountaineering excursion in Val Fonda to the Forcella del Cristallo has an elevation gain of 1300 meters both ways. It requires good training and mastering of ski mountaineering and has an MSA (Medium Mountain Skier) difficulty rating. Maximum incline is 35 degrees.
