The ski mountaineering to Gran Zebrù starts from Rifugio Forni, reachable from S.Caterina Valfurva along the road that goes up to Val dei Forni.

The path climbs up through a very nice mule track that starts very steep before getting flatter. After going round a ridge that leads to valley Val Cedec, the ski mountaineers will keep climbing until Rifugio Pizzini. The path develops through a wonderful environment and it is always very easy to locate. The itinerary keeps climbing towards the evident rocky island at the foot of the south side of Mount Gran Zebrù that will have to be bypassed. A deep turn will, then, lead to the start of the couloir that heads to the ridge. Once on the shoulder of the south-east ridge, the ski mountaineers will face the very steep stretch that leads to a sloping ground just before the final part. A last very beautiful stretch on the ridge leads to the summit Cross. A few beautiful variation to the climb route are possible; the best itinerary can be defined together with the mountain guide.

The ski descent from the summit is just for expert skiers; for all the others it is better to leave the skis at the base of the couloirs. In both cases the ski ride to the valley floor is really beautiful and rewarding.

The ski mountaineering excursion to Gran Zebrù can be done in about 6/7 hours and it leads to a maximum elevation of 3851 meters. It is rated as OSA (very good ski mountaineers). It features a 1673 meter elevation gain and loss. Part of the path develops on glacier or on demanding ground and it is, then, advisable to bring the complete ski mountaineering and first aid equipment.
