Information about the ski mountaineering excursion to Forcella delle Bance

The ski mountaineering itinerary starts at a small parking lot located along the road between Carbonin and Misurina, at the start of the Popena Valley. The path climbs gently the Popena valley and stream up to where it merges with the steep and challenging Val delle Baracche, reaching a beautiful natural amphitheater surrounded by Punta Michele, Ago Loschner and the 3152-meter peak of Piz Popena. The climb goes on to a long and steep gully which we hike with the skis on our backpack and includes a short, icy and technical50 degree stretch. The gully leads us to the Forcella delle Bance at an elevation of 2739 meters.

We begin our descent along the spectacular Val delle Bance: the valley drops straight down to the rocks, then opens up into a large and wide slope providing exciting skiing. The last stretch crosses a forest taking us back to our starting point.

The ski mountaineering excursion to the Forcella delle Bance has an elevation gain of 1100 meters, on the way up and on the way down. It requires good training and great ski mountaineering technical skills with an BSA (Good Mountain Skier) difficulty rating. We steepest incline upward is a short stretch at 50 degrees and 40 on the way down.
