The the ski mountaineering excursion to Mount Corno Grande, Western Summit, starts from Campo Imperatore. One can go up taking the cable car or with the seals skins through the street.
The path climbs up towards col Sella di Monte Aquila through the nice trail. After a long traverse and a short but steep climb, the path reaches the col from where it heads for the base of couloir Canale Bissolati. The steep attack of the ridge is reached with a traverse. The couloir, first steep and narrow, gets, then, wider and wider and it allows to rapidly gain elevation.
The ascent proceeds constant towards the summit. Once on the ridge the path shortly reaches the summit. From the summit the landscape is marvelous and it stretches on Campo Pericoli, on the Via Normale and on Mount Corno Piccolo.
The descent, likewise spectacular, takes place through the climb route.
The ski mountaineering excursion to Mount Corno Grande - Western Summit and Couloir Canale Bissolati is rated as OSA (veri good ski mountaineer). It starts from an elevation of 2100 eter and it reaches the maximum elevation of 2912 meters for about 900 meter elevation gap. It can be done in about five hours and it mostly faces south-west.
