Information about the ski mountaineering to Monte Pelmo

The ski mountaineering in Mount Pelmo starts at the Venezia Lodge at 1946 meters; it is possible to sleep at this comfortable winter bivouac when taking the two-day excursion option. From the lodge we climb on skis up a slope taking us to the long and exposed Ball ledge. We negotiate the ledge with the skis on our backpack, tied up to the guide and the multiple pitons existing on the route, a thrilling experience in the presence of a panorama of incredible beauty. Once the rocky section is completed, we continue the long, at times steep ski mountaineering climb within the great Pelmo amphitheater called "God's Chair" because of its peculiar shape, until we reach the great shoulder dividing the Pelmo from the Pelmetto.

Then we continue following the southwest ridge up to the summit of Monte Pelmo; there we can enjoy the whole Alpine archway as far as eye can see. The descent is very rewarding as well and is negotiated on skis along the path we took on the way up, taking the Ball ledge backward.

The ski mountaineering excursion to Monte Pelmo has an elevation gain of 1222 meters in both directions starting at the Venezia Lodge. It requires good training and mastering of ski mountaineering technical skills because of the OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier) rating. Average incline is about 35 degrees.
