The ski mountaineering in Mount Cristallo starts at 2215 meters at Son Forca; we get there by the Cristallo chairlift, where we put on our skis fitted with seal skins. From there we begin a long uphill stretch leading to Forcella Grande at 2870 meters, between the Cristallino d'Ampezzo and either the Creste Bianche, or to Forcella Staunies at 3000 meters.

Once we reach the top of one of the two Forcelle, on the way down we can pick either of four beautiful itineraries:

  • Along the famous Creste Bianche descent to Cimabanche through Pra del Vecio up to Cimabanche;
  • Along one of the three steep gullies leading to Val Fonda and Carbonin;
  • Along the Val Sigismondo after we reach the Costabella Ridge, down to Carbonin.

We return to our starting point by taxi service.

  • Ascent and descent for the same itinerary.

The ski mountaineering in Monte Cristallo Mountain has an elevation gain of 800 meters and an elevation loss of 1500 on the descent. It requires good training and great ski mountaineering technical skills as it includes a D (Difficult) level of difficulty. Maximum incline is 38 degrees.
