Information about the ski mountaineering excursion to Cristallino d'Ampezzo

The ski mountaineering itinerary starts at 2215 meters at Son Forca, reached by the Cristallo chairlift, where we put on our skis fitted with seal skins. From there we start climbing a long stretch leading to Forcella Grande (Great Pass) at 2870 meters, dividing the rocky tower of the Cristallino d'Ampezzo at 3008 meters from Creste Bianche.

After setting our crampons, from the pass we start climbing the rocky ridge along the Ivano Dibona ferrata, overtaking stretches of rocks, snow and ice, vertical aiders, and the famous, breathtaking bridge, hanging at an elevation of 3000 meters, where we can enjoy a fantastic and unique 360 degrees view of the Dolomites.

On the way down, we follow the southern side, along the steep Staunies Valley, dropping down to Son Forca and on along the ski slope reaching Rio Gere. A beautiful detour on the descent follows the northern side, one of the many itineraries leading to Carbonin and Cimabanche.

The ski mountaineering excursion to the Cristallino d'Ampezzo has an elevation gain of 800 meters on the way up and an elevation loss of 1500 meters on the northern side descent.
