The ski mountaineering excursion to Cima d’Asta, at an elevation of 2847 meters, from the west ridge with descent through the “classic” east side, is a spectacular hike in the Lagorai Range. The tour is demanding due to its develop, its elevation gap and its technical issues. The views from the summit are incredibly beautiful and they stretch over all the Dolomites.

The excursion starts from the parking lot by Malga Sorgazza. Climbing up through Val Sorgazza’s forest track, within a marvelous alpine environment, we head to Creek Torrente Grigno and we reach the foot of the rocky slopes. As we keep climbing, we go through steep crags, slopes and couloirs and we reach Lake Cima d'Asta.

Next comes a couloir that requires crampons and pick in some stretches. The last steep stretch (pretty technical) through the west ridge leads to the bivouac and to the Summit Cross. The exciting steep descent takes place through the climb route until Lastei dei Fiori. After a short climb with our skis on our back, the ski ride develops on milder slopes and on steeper stretches and will get us back to the starting point.

The ski mountaineering excursion to Mount Cima d'Asta features a 1450 meters elevation gain and loss. It requires good training and mastering of technical skills of ski mountaineering and is rated as OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier). Maximum incline is 40 degrees.
