The Ortler, 3905 m, is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps in South Tyrol. It is a massive dolomite mountain surrounded by a wide glacial cap from where several rocky ridges and ice couloirs stretch out. Mount Ortler provides one of the most thrilling alpine climbing routes in all the Alps, such as the climb along the Ortler Hintergrat Ridge, also known as Cresta del Coston.

The Hintergrat is a fairly exposed ridge, overlooking the northern side of the Gran Zebrú. It ascends the Ortler from the East along a very scenic and evocative mountaineering route.
