Information about the steep skiing excursion in the Cortina couloirs #2

The excursion begins at the parking lot of the Freccia del Cielo cable car taking us up to Ra Valles. We come down a stretch of slope leading to the entrance of the Forcella Rossa. From there, on foot and with our skis on our backpack, we climb up a short yet steep slope leading to 2410 meters at the top of Ra Zestes; we keep going and effortlessly reach the entrance of the Canale della Colonna, so called because of its impressive and characteristic pinnacle.

The ski run along the couloir and the wide slope that follows is positively great. First it leads us to a narrow couloir which we negotiate on foot, then we ski down and board the cable car taking us back to Ra Valles. We go up to an altitude of 2828 meters by chairlift, then we climb on foot a slope leading to a fabulous pass. As we continue, we climb down a fun and thrilling via ferrata, secured to the guide, and we reach the Bus de Tofana that divides the north and the south sides.

The descent unfolds along a spectacular couloir initially narrow and steep which later opens to an unforgettable run on wide and gentle slopes down to Rifugio Dibona. From the lodge we return to the center of Cortina on snowy trails and ski slopes back to the cable car station. The descent totals an elevation loss of almost 2000 meters.

The freeride excursion to Canale della Colonna and Bus de Tofana has an elevation loss of 1900 meters on the off-piste, in addition to regular ski slope sections. It requires good training and mastering of skiing techniques because of its BSA (Good Mountain Skier) rating. Maximum incline is 37 degrees.
