Information about the off-piste Passo della Coppa

From the Gabiet cable car the hikers will reach lake Lago Gabiet, at an elevation of 2367 meters and they will keep going until the little house of the watchmen of the dam. Going up through some steep little valleys the path reaches a plain from where, then, it keeps going up the steep slopes that lead to Passo della Coppa, at an elevation of 2916 meters, in it s marvelous position between Mount Corno Grosso and Mount Punta Straling (about two hours with the skins).

The freeride descent -very beautiful!- starts rather steep. There are two possible paths: one can head directly to the couloir under the hill or cross and enter a secondary couloir. Both the paths will lead to some wide slopes that follow one another and that lead by Mount Alpe Granus, at an elevation of about 2400 meters. From there, other slopes -steep and facing south- will lead to a wide plain in the middle of valley Vallone di Otro; going through the valley the path gets to Mount Alpe Cuttiri.

From here, as well, two paths are possible: one can traverse on the mountain side and go back to the bottom of the valley until the plains of Alpe Farinetti and Gender and cross a pine grove before skiing on the summer trail all the way to Alagna; or, from under Alpe Cuttiri one can make a long traverse on marvelous slopes that lead to the alpine pastures of Pianmisura. A very beautiful trail, then, crosses all the marvelous little villages around Otro and the beautiful meadows before entering the woods and reaching Alagna.

The freeride excursion to Passo della Coppa, in Monte Rosa, reaches a maximum elevation of 2916 meters. It is rated as BSA (good grade ski mountaineer). It features a 500 meter elevation gain and a 1800 meter elevation loss.
