The freeride skiing excursion in Alagna to Passo Zube with descent to Otro is a particularly evocative and rewarding itinerary. We are in the area of the Alpi Occidentali (Western Alps), in the Alps of Monte Rosa Range. It is a very renowned and sought after path.
In its first part it features fantastic slopes, perfect for very fun ski rides, while through its final part it crosses the picturesque little Walser villages before entering the woods for another very beautiful freeride ski ride.

Information about the off-piste skiing to Passo Zube and Val d'Otro
The off-piste ski excursion starts from Passo dei Salati that can be reached from Alagna or from Staffal taking the cable car. The path starts going down through the Gabiet ski track before leaving it at the end of the plain. Then the skiers will make a long traverse right under Mount Corno Rosso that leads to the entrance of a little valley that stretches all the way to Passo di Zube.
With the seal skins or skis on their back, the skiers will climb up through the valley -steep in the beginning and in the end- until they reach the wide and evocative pass Passo di Zube, at an elevation of 2874 meters. The view on Mount Monte Rosa is beyond words.
The descent starts passing a first ramp. Once the ridge is passed, the ski ride flows smooth and exciting through the wide slopes and it leads the hikers to the hut in Alpe Zube. Heading south-east the path keeps going until Mount Alpe Pianmisura comes in sight; the ski ride, now, is on steeper slopes that lead to the alpine pastures.
After crossing an evocative brook and going up to the characteristic alpine huts, the path crosses the picturesque little villages around Otro before reaching the marvelous meadows that precede the woods. At the exit the hikers will cross the clearings of the old "Camoscetta" ski track and they will enter the trail that -through the woods- leads back to Alagna.
The freeride skiing in Alagna to Passo Zube with descent to Otro does not feature extreme technical issues but it must be faced with care, particularly by some rock jumps in the high part of the path. The maximum elevation reached is 2874 meters.

What you need to know
- Participants Anyone over the age of 16, with an adequate level of training and fitness, can participate in this experience.
- Under 18 Minors under the age of 18, if unaccompanied, require a waiver of liability from the parent or guardian of the child, that must be given to the guide before the excursion begins.
