Information about the off-piste skiing to the Holzer Couloir

We begin our off-piste skiing excursion by boarding the Sass Pordoi cable car that takes us up to the Rifugio Maria at an altitude of 2950 meters, one of the most panoramic spots in the Dolomites. Once we reach the summit we negotiate a first warm-up descent along the couloir, starting from the Forcella Pordoi and taking us back to the start of the lift.

Back up on the mountain, we enter right away the couloir that shows a typical funnel start, very wide then progressively narrowing, widening up again in the middle section, where it is often necessary to use a short rappel to overtake an icy cliff. The couloir is wide enough to allow a nice ski-run with wide turns. It has no extreme inclines. When we exit the couloir, we continue skiing on gentle slopes in the final section of Val Lasties until we get to the lifts taking us back to our starting point.

The freeride ski excursion to the Holzer couloir has an off-piste skiing elevation loss of 2100 meters. It requires good training and great mastering of technical skiing skills because of its OS (Excellent Skier) rating. Maximum incline is 50 degrees.
