Information about the ski touring to Mount Pollux

The ski touring to Mount Pollux through the Verra Glacier starts from Pian di Verra Inferiore, at an elevation of 2050 meters.

Day one of ski touring
A very nice street goes up towards Pian di Verra Superiore and it goes towards the little valley of glacier Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra. The itinerary goes on through the steep morainic graveled slope of glacier Grande Ghiacciaio di Verra. The path, then, reaches the ridge over the morain that will lead the skiers to Rifugio Mezzalama, at an elevation of 3004 meters. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day two of ski touring
From Rifugio Mezzalama the itinerary resumes going up the slopes of glacier Ghiacciaio di Verra. A rather steep stretch preceds a wide glacial hump from which the south-west ridge starts. At the beginning the ridge starts as a snowy couloir that can be easily climbed before heading for an equipped stretch that allows to overcome some smooth slabs.

The path, then, gets to the base of a deep and smooth chimney that leads to a little col from where the sharp snowy ridge starts and it leads to the summit. As an alternative, it is possible to go up through the west side (easier itinerary) on which the descent develops.

After going down to the little col the hikers will reach a good position for the descent. After crossing the whole side, the path gets by the ridge and it goes on through the climb route. The very beautiful ski ride takes place through the climb route.

The ski touring to Mount Pollux (Monte Polluce) is rated as OSA (very good ski mountaineer). The excursion reaches a maximum elevation of 4091 meters. The path, both during the climb and the descent, faces south and west. It features a 1315 + 1093 meters elevation gap.
