Information about the ski mountaineering excursion

The ski mountaineering itinerary starts at the top station of the Lagazuoi cable car. After a long traverse and an up-and-down section taking us in northern direction, we get to the base of the northern Fanis Tower, where a fantastic narrow and vertical couloir begins leading to a small pass at an elevation of 2658 meters. It's a challenging climb at an average incline of 50 degrees. We negotiate it with crampons and pick, carrying our skis in our backpack. It includes overtaking a short icy cliff while climbing.

Once we reach the pass, the descent appears very steep in the first section, with a 55-degree incline, tapering off in the second part. At the end of the couloir, along the large amphitheater of Cadin di Fanes, the descent becomes gentle and more relaxed until Forcella del Mortaio which can be reached by short climb with our seal skins back on. We go over the pass and continue to the Forcella Travenanzes to face the last ski run along the ski slope at the Lagazuoi taking us back to the cable car parking lot.

The ski mountaineering excursion to the Canalino della Liberazione has an elevation gain of 700 meters. It requires good training and mastering of ski mountaineering technical skills because of the OSA (Excellent Mountain Skier) rating. Maximum incline is 55 degrees.
