Information about the ski mountaineering excursion to Costabella Ridge

The ski mountaineering itinerary starts at 2215 meters at Son Forca which can be reached by the Cristallo chairlift, where we put on our skis fitted with seal skins. From there we start climbing a long stretch leading to Forcella Grande at 2870 meters, between the Cristallino d'Ampezzo and the Creste Bianche. From the pass we descend on skis down to the bottom of the slope which we climb up reaching the spectacular aerial ridge of Cresta di Costabella.

The first section of the descent is steep and leads to a beautiful deep valley descending until it meets a charming and narrow river canyon. Then it continues through the woods ending in the proximity of the Ploner Tourist Center. We return to our starting point by taxi service.

The ski mountaineering excursion to the Costabella Ridge has an elevation gain of 800 meters and an elevation loss on the descent of 1500 meters. It needs to be negotiated with good training and excellent technical ski mountaineering skills, as it includes a D (Difficult) level of difficulty. We face an incline of up to 38 degrees.
