In the Costaccia ski area we can find many very beautiful off-piste skiing itineraries; paths of various lengths and difficulties that give all the skiers -from the beginner to the most expert freerider- the chance to live unforgettable emotions in unique, evocative and incredibly scenic environments.
Off-piste skiing in Valtellina, in the Costaccia ski area, means living incredibly intense emotions crossing immaculate valleys and uncontaminated slopes, immersed in an amazing, quiet and spectacular nature. Moving away from the trod ski tracks means getting in touch and in intimacy with the mountain. Off-piste skiing is discovering nature again, it is freedom and it is creativity. Venturing through untrod paths means experimenting, discovering and being moved.
Off-piste Calcheira Bassa
This very beautiful freeride ski descent that crosses the dense wood that leads to valley Val Federia starts from an elevation of 2300 meters and it features a 500 meter height loss; it faces north/north-west and it develops on 35° slopes. The ski ride starts from the top station of the Tagliede chair-lift. Going on the ski track for a short stretch the path leads to the Costaccia mountainside from where the stupendous descent starts. A very beautiful and wide slope leads to the entrance of the woods that, squeezed among two couloirs, goes down to the bottom of the valley. Once out of the woods, the freeriders will go round River Federia and they will reach the road to Calcheira.
Off-piste Crocifisso ("Crucifix")
This steep and extremely thrilling freeride descent starts from the station of the Costaccia-Tagliede chair-lift, at an elevation of 2358 meters. The itinerary faces south-east and it features a 500 meter height loss on 45° slopes.
The ski ride starts on the track; the freeriders will pass under the chair-lift and they will reach a wooden Crucifix. Skiing, then, through a nice little woods the skiers will get to the start of a steep slope; going down through it they will reach a nice wooded valley and they will then cross a dense woods. A nice traverse, then, will bring the hikers back to the chair-lift station.
"Unnamed" Off-piste Itinerary
This path, as well, starts from the station of the Costaccia-Tagliede chair-lift, at an elevation of 2358 meters. The descent faces east and it features a 500 meter height loss with 45° slopes. The very beautiful and super fun descent is rather steep; it starts by the avalanche fences and it enters a precipitous slope. At its bottom the skiers will get to a dense woods that leads to the ski tracks above Livigno. With a traverse it is possible to get back to the chair-lift.
"Unnamed" Off-piste Itinerary
This super fun and "hidden" ski ride starts from the top station of the Valandrea-Vetta chair-lift, at an elevation of 2612 meters. The path faces east and it features a 900 meter height loss on 35° slopes.
Taking the main ski track from the chair-lift station, a short stretch leads to the start of a marvelous open slope. The freeriders will ski down through it until they will reach the avalanche fences before entering another definitely steep slope. While the ski run proceeds wonderful, the woods gets sparser and the path heads for the village that is reached crossing beautiful and comfortable meadows.
Off-piste Paravalanghe ("Avalanche Fences")
This freeride descent develops through a long itinerary that offers several possible paths. It starts from an elevation of 2800 meters (from the top station of the Blesaccia II chair-lift) and it faces east. It features a 1000 meter height loss and 30° slopes. The freeriders will start on the ski track under the line of the chair-lift for a short stretch and they will reach a beautiful slope. The stupendous descent starts heading for the bottom of the valley and it leads to a comfortable couloir squeezed between the avalanche fences. With no obligated path, then, the skiers will cross a very beautiful woods and they will reach an easy and super fun slope that will bring them back to the village.
