This is a spectacular two day ski mountaineering tour leading to Mount Colle di Moncorvè, a very beautiful and extremely evocative peak rising within the Gran Paradiso National Park.
Mount Colle di Moncorvè is a particularly loved and sought after mountain; the ski mountaineers crave it because it features an incredibly rewarding itinerary, both during the ascent and through the thrilling descent ski ride.
Day one of Colle di Moncorvè ski mountaineering tour
From Pont Valsavaranche to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele
Start: Pont Valsavaranche (1956 meters)
Arrival: Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele (2735 meters)
Elevation gap: 779 meters
The excursion starts from the little village of Pont Valsavaranche, from the parking lot of a hotel. Going up heading south the path skirts creek Torrente Savara all the way to Rifugio Tetras Lyre. Through the summer trail, then, the hikers will cross a very beautiful larch wood. Once they reach the ruins of Chanté they will leave the trail and they will keep going on a steep slope until they will reach a wide couloir that leads directly to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele, at an elevation of 2735 meters.

From Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele to Colle di Moncorvè
Elevation gap: 564 meters
From the rifugio the path follows the itinerary to Mount Tresenta for a short stretch before heading straight for Mount Colle di Moncorvé and going up through the glacier. The summit is reaching after climbing through constant and not particularly steep slopes. The descent ski ride is really very beautiful and it takes place through the climb route. With good snow it is possible to go down beyond the rifugio until an elevation of about 2400 meters before going backup to the rifugio. Then it is also possible to go down west towards the base of the buttress of Mount Ciarforon.
From Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele the descent offers three options: through the climb route, through the itinerary of Grand Etret, or heading south to cross creek Chanté before going down on wide slopes. After crossing the creek again, the path connects to the climb route.
