The Roccia Nera is one of the 4000 of the Monte Rosa massif, located between the Breithorns and the Pollux in a spectacular high mountain glacial environment. It offers a wonderful uphill itineraries between glaciers and unforgettable views.

Roccia Nera mountaineering ascent

Climbing Roccia Nera through the Verra Glacier, along the Normal route or the Spigolo route, is a beautiful mountaineering experience that takes place in two days.

Day one
The meeting point is in St Jacques - Champoluc. The itinerary starts from Pian di Verra Superiore, reachable by Jeep, and it goes towards the little valley of glacier Piccolo Ghiacciaio di Verra. The itinerary goes on through the steep morainic graveled slope of glacier Grande Ghiacciaio di Verra. The path, then, will lead the mountaineers to Refuge Guide di Ayas (3420 m). Dinner and overnight stay.

Day two
From Refuge Guide di Ayas the itinerary resumes going up the slopes to the base of the Roccia Nera from where it climbs on snow to the summit. From the top the mountaineers can admire unforgettable views of the walls of the Klein Matterhorn, the Breithorn, and the nearby 4000 of Monte Rosa.The descent is along the same climbing route.

It is also possible to climb the Roccia Nera along the Via dello Spigolo, a challenging and very beautiful rock and mixed climbing route.
