Mount Dent du Géant (Giant’s Tooth), 4013 meters, in the massif of Mont Blanc, is one of the most renowned mountains in the Alps thanks to its characteristic and evocative shape; it is a very desired and prestigious alpine destination.

Dent du Géant conquest, by alpine guides Jean-Joseph, Baptiste e Daniel Maquignaz (dad, sun and nephew) on July 28th 1882, is legendary in mountaineering history. Famous is a statement by English mountaineer Albert Mummery that, about this climb, said "Impossible by fair means".

The climb to Mount Dent du Géant (Dente del Gigante - Giant’s Tooth, 4013 meters) along the normal route is an incredibly thrilling and rewarding alpine experience. The climb develops on a motley and steep ground with III° sections and equipped stretches. This climb calls for alpine experience and physical training.

Climbing experience to Dent du Géant

The appointment with the alpine guide for the equipment check is at the Monte Bianco cable car station. Riding the cable car the mountaineers will reach Punta Helbronner and Rifugio Torino and from there they will get to the glacier. The first stretch, not difficult, leads to the “Gengiva (gums)” - the base of the mountain - where the climbers will leave the glacier equipment and wear the climbing one. That’s where the real climb starts.

After an equipped stretch a free section will go up to a large protrusion at the beginning of the "Burgener slabs". As the climbers keep going they will reach the summit through a very thrilling climbing stretch. Mount Dent du Géant gives priceless emotions from its scenic summit.

The descent to Rifugio Torino will take place through the climb route.

Climb 5/6 hours with a 750 meter elevation gain. Descent 3 hours with a 750 meter elevation loss.

To reserve a mountain guide for climbing the Dent du Géant along the normal route, in the Mont Blanc range, you must send a request that provides and specifies your contact information, the number of participants and the date/period in which you wish to take the excursion.
